The Burning of Troy (17th Century) by Flemish School
Troy is already lost.
The wooden horse stands inside the city, the sky is thick with fire, and people are running before they fully understand what has happened.
Soldiers pour through the gates. Families are dragged into the chaos. In the distance, Troy burns until the city almost becomes part of the sunset.
The disaster begins with one of mythology’s most famous tricks. After ten years of war, the Greeks leave behind a giant wooden horse as a false offering.
Odysseus is credited with the idea: a gift that is really a weapon. Troy brings it inside the walls. That night, the soldiers hidden inside emerge, open the gates, and the city falls.
