Portrait of the Ballerina Vera Trefilova (1924) by Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin
The famous ballerina Vera sits in bright pink tulle rests between rehearsals, the dressing room glowing with Korovin’s signature impressionist light.
Russia’s master of colour, Korovin often painted performers not on stage, but before-tired, human, unguarded, and beautifully alive.
About Vera:
After graduating from the Imperial Ballet School in 1894, Vera Trefilova joined the Mariinsky Theatre company. She rose quickly, becoming a soloist in 1901 and a prima ballerina by 1906.
Konstantin Korovin depicts the dancer in her dressing room at one of her last performances.
