Portrait of Sister Art Print | Amrita Sher-Gil Wall Art

Portrait of Sister (1936) by Amrita Sher-Gil

India, 1936. Indira, the artist's younger sister, sits with her hands folded, a black sari falling across a red blouse.

The familiar sitter becomes a study in angled shoulders, lowered eyes and the weight of patterned cloth. Sher-Gil gives a family portrait the concentration of a private moment.

The contrast of the black sari and red blouse gives this portrait a strong presence in a study or living room. Choose it as a modern Indian art print for your own home decor, or as a personal festive gift for a sister who loves art.
